How to name movie files
Updated Jul 14, 2026
Use this pattern for every movie file so Playflix can identify it perfectly:
tt0000000_filename_year_A+EN+ES+PT(+EN/ES/PT)_Resolution.suffixnameReal example
The movie Jurassic World has two audio tracks. The correct file name is:
tt0369610_Jurassic.World_2015_U17_A+EN+PT_R480P.mp4Field by field
| Field | Meaning | Example |
|---|---|---|
| tt0000000 | IMDb ID (always starts with tt) | tt0369610 |
| filename | Title, words joined by dots | Jurassic.World |
| year | Release year | 2015 |
| rating | Age rating token | U17 |
| A+EN+PT | Audio tracks: A+ then language codes | Audio EN + PT |
| (+EN/ES/PT) | Notation only: the optional extra audio codes you may add | — |
| Resolution | R + resolution (480/720/1080/2160) | R480P |
| .suffixname | File extension | .mp4 |
Subtitles are not part of the file name. Playflix detects subtitle tracks automatically from inside your file — you only list audio in the name.
The IMDb ID is the most important field — it's what guarantees the right cover and synopsis. Learn where to find it in “Finding the IMDb ID”.
Separate every field with an underscore ( _ ) and join title words with dots ( . ). Keep the R before the resolution and the A+ before audio codes.
